Daniel Henkel, student of the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Music is a Wisconsin native. Originally from Cedarburg, Wisconsin, Dan is currently pursuing degrees in piano performance and instrumental education. He is also involved with the UW Marching Band acting as assistant drum major and trumpet section leader during the 2001 - 2002 football seasons. His recent piano performances have included an all George Gershwin piano recital last spring and a guest artist performance with the UW Varsity Band at the Kohl Center where he performed Gershwin's "Rhapsody In Blue." Dan also appeared as a guest artist at McFarland High School commemorating the purchase of their new grand piano. Henkel is an active piano soloist, accompanist and conductor. He has recently been a guest conductor of one of the University Bands at the UW and also conducted Bach's "Concerto For Three Pianos And Orchestra" in the spring of 2002. Some of his honors have included awards from the MMTA (Milwaukee), NFMC and the UW School of Music piano faculty. Dan was also an alternate finalist in the UW School of Music concerto competition in the fall of 2000. In the summer of 2002, Dan placed second at the Creative Arts National Competition in St. Louis, sponsored by Phi Beta. Dan is currently an active member in Phi Beta and Phi Mu Alpha, a men's music fraternity that promotes the creativity, performance, education and research of music in America.
Dan has performed with the Varsity Band as a guest artist on two occasions, both as a student. In 2002, Dan performed "Rhapsody in Blue" and in 2003 he banged out Billy Joel's "Root Beer Rag."
