Liam Teague, one of the greatest steelpan players in the world, first distinguished himself in his homeland, Trinidad and Tobago, as the recipient of numerous awards for his abilities on the steelpan, as well as the violin and recorder.
As a pannist he was the winner of the Fernandes Distillers Trophy/Steel Pan Solo Class, in the 1986 Trinidad and Tobago National Music Festival. He was also awarded first place in solo competition for the Trinidad and Tobago National Scouts Festival.
He has held the title of National Schools Solo Pan Champion since 1989, winning the bi-annual competition twice in succession, both times with his own compositions, The Firebird and A Visit to Hell.
In the fall of 1992 he was the co-winner of the National Steelband Festival Solo Championship, the professional level competition held every two years. He won this award, again, with his performance of A Visit to Hell.
He has performed as a soloist for the M. C. Hammer Trinidad tour, for Prince Edward of Great Britain and for Carlos Andres Perez, Former President of Venezuela.
In addition to the aforementioned works, his compositions for pan include: Emotions of Steel (solo with steelband), Rain Drops, Same Here (solo), Etude (cello solo) and Hands Like Lightning (steelband). Several of these works appear on CD, released by Engine Room Productions in Trinidad.
He has toured several times in Jamaica and Germany (1988-1991) as a soloist and as a member of the Wood-Trin Steel Orchestra.
Liam Teague is also a member of the Northern Illinois University faculty where he received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees.
